Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy

Preserving Scholarly Knowledge for Future Generations

About This Policy

Bridging of Emerging AI and Media Broadcasting (BEAM) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all published scholarly content. The journal recognizes the importance of maintaining a reliable digital scholarly record and protecting published research from potential data loss, technical failures, platform disruptions, and other unforeseen circumstances.

BEAM implements digital preservation and archiving practices to maintain the availability and authenticity of its published articles, issues, and associated scholarly metadata. These practices support the continuity of scholarly communication and ensure that published research remains accessible to researchers, academics, professionals, and the wider community.

01. Digital Preservation Commitment

BEAM is committed to preserving its published scholarly content for long-term access and reference. All published articles and journal issues are maintained within the journal's official online publishing platform.

The preservation commitment covers:

  • Full-text versions of published research articles.
  • Journal issues, volumes, and tables of contents.
  • Article metadata, including titles, authors, affiliations, abstracts, and keywords.
  • Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and bibliographic information, where assigned.
  • Publication notices, including corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions.
  • Supplementary materials associated with published articles, where applicable.

02. Digital Archiving Systems

BEAM recognizes the importance of distributed digital preservation systems in protecting scholarly publications against accidental loss, server failures, and technological disruptions.

The journal supports the use of recognized digital preservation mechanisms, including the following systems, subject to confirmed technical implementation and participation:

A. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)

LOCKSS is a distributed digital preservation system that enables participating libraries to collect, preserve, and maintain permanent copies of scholarly journal content. Through distributed preservation, participating institutions can help protect digital publications against data loss and support content restoration when necessary.

B. CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)

CLOCKSS is a community-based digital preservation initiative designed to provide long-term preservation of scholarly publications. It maintains distributed archival copies and supports the continued availability of digital scholarly content under applicable preservation and trigger-access conditions.

C. PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

The PKP Preservation Network provides digital preservation services for eligible journals using Open Journal Systems (OJS). It supports the long-term preservation of journal content through a distributed preservation infrastructure.

Implementation Notice: BEAM will identify and publicly disclose the preservation services in which it actively participates once the relevant registration and technical implementation have been verified.

03. Digital Backup and Data Security

BEAM recognizes the importance of maintaining appropriate backup procedures to reduce the risk of losing published content and essential journal records.

The journal's digital preservation practices aim to support:

  • Protection of published articles and journal metadata.
  • Backup and recovery of essential journal publishing records.
  • Protection against accidental deletion, technical failures, and data corruption.
  • Maintenance of the integrity and authenticity of published content.
  • Recovery procedures in the event of website or server disruptions.

04. DOI and Metadata Preservation

BEAM recognizes the importance of persistent digital identifiers in maintaining the discoverability, traceability, and accurate citation of scholarly publications.

Articles assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) are expected to retain their registered DOI as a persistent identifier. Bibliographic metadata, including article titles, author names, publication dates, abstracts, and references, should be maintained accurately to support scholarly discovery and citation.

Any changes to article metadata or publication information will be handled through appropriate editorial and publishing procedures to maintain consistency with the scholarly record.

05. Long-Term Accessibility

BEAM aims to ensure that published scholarly content remains accessible through its official journal website and applicable preservation mechanisms.

The journal is committed to maintaining access to published articles and archived issues even when technical maintenance, platform updates, or changes to the journal's publishing infrastructure occur.

When digital content becomes temporarily unavailable due to technical circumstances, BEAM will make reasonable efforts to restore access and maintain the continuity of its published scholarly records.

06. Content Restoration and Recovery

In the event of data loss, website disruption, server failure, or other circumstances affecting access to published content, BEAM will take appropriate measures to restore the affected materials whenever possible.

Restoration procedures may include:

  1. Identifying the affected journal content and the nature of the disruption.
  2. Assessing the availability and integrity of preserved digital records.
  3. Recovering content from available backup copies or participating preservation services.
  4. Verifying the accuracy and completeness of restored articles and metadata.
  5. Restoring public access to the affected scholarly materials.

Any restoration activity will prioritize the authenticity, completeness, and reliability of the original published record.

07. Continuity of the Scholarly Record

BEAM is committed to maintaining the continuity of its scholarly publications and ensuring that published research remains identifiable and citable over time.

In the event of significant changes to the journal's website, publishing platform, or hosting infrastructure, reasonable measures will be taken to maintain access to previously published articles and preserve their associated metadata.

If the journal's publication activities are discontinued, BEAM and its publisher will seek to maintain access to previously published scholarly content through available archival and preservation arrangements.

08. Commitment to Digital Preservation

Through this Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy, BEAM reaffirms its commitment to protecting the integrity, authenticity, and long-term accessibility of scholarly publications in Artificial Intelligence, emerging digital technologies, and media broadcasting.

The journal aims to continuously improve its digital preservation practices in accordance with recognized scholarly publishing standards and developments in digital archiving technologies.

These efforts reflect BEAM's commitment to responsible scholarly publishing, research transparency, and the sustainability of the academic record.
