Manuscripts are subject to editorial screening and peer review in accordance with Smart Human-centered Emerging Research in Machine Intelligence (SHEM) editorial policies. Acceptance of a manuscript type does not guarantee publication.

Manuscript Structure

Research articles should generally follow the structure described below. The precise organization may be adapted to the research design and article type, provided that the manuscript remains clear, complete, and scientifically rigorous.

1. TITLE

The title must be concise, informative, specific, and representative of the manuscript's principal research focus. It should clearly communicate the main topic or contribution without unnecessary abbreviations, overly broad expressions, or unsupported claims.

  • Use clear academic English and appropriate terminology.
  • Avoid unexplained abbreviations and promotional language.
  • Ensure that the title accurately reflects the research objectives and findings.

2. ABSTRACT

The abstract must provide a self-contained summary of the research, allowing readers to understand the purpose, approach, principal findings, and contribution without reading the full manuscript.

The abstract should include:

  • Research background or problem.
  • Research objective.
  • Methods or research approach.
  • Principal results and findings.
  • Conclusion and contribution.

Authors should provide approximately 150–250 words unless the specific article type or journal template specifies otherwise. The abstract should not contain unnecessary citations, undefined abbreviations, or information unsupported by the manuscript. Include approximately 3–6 keywords that represent the main concepts of the study.

3. INTRODUCTION

The introduction must establish the research context, explain the problem being addressed, and demonstrate why the study is necessary.

  • Introduce the research topic and its significance.
  • Identify the research problem and knowledge gap.
  • Explain the motivation and rationale for conducting the study.
  • State the research objectives, questions, or hypotheses.
  • Summarize the expected contribution and, where appropriate, the manuscript organization.

4. LITERATURE REVIEW

The literature review must critically examine relevant scholarly work and establish the theoretical or conceptual foundation of the study.

  • Use credible and relevant scholarly sources, including recent research where appropriate.
  • Compare and synthesize previous findings rather than merely listing publications.
  • Identify limitations, inconsistencies, or unresolved issues in existing research.
  • Explain how the current study addresses the identified research gap.
  • Ensure that citations accurately represent the cited sources and that all cited works appear in the reference list.

Depending on the research design, the literature review may be integrated into the introduction or presented as a separate section.

5. METHOD

The method section must explain how the research was conducted in sufficient detail for readers to evaluate its validity and, where applicable, reproduce the study.

Depending on the study, include:

  • Research design and methodological approach.
  • Study setting, population, sample, or dataset.
  • Data collection instruments, procedures, and variables.
  • Algorithms, models, system architecture, software, or experimental configurations where relevant.
  • Data preprocessing, statistical analysis, evaluation metrics, and validation procedures.
  • Ethics approval, informed consent, and data protection measures where applicable.

Methods must be reported transparently. Authors should not omit information necessary to understand how the results were obtained or how the conclusions were supported.

6. RESULT & DISCUSSION

The results and discussion section must present the study's findings clearly and interpret their significance in relation to the research objectives and existing literature.

Results should:

  • Present relevant findings in a logical sequence.
  • Use tables, figures, charts, or diagrams when they improve clarity.
  • Report quantitative or qualitative evidence accurately.
  • Ensure that all tables and figures are numbered, titled, referenced in the text, and legible at publication quality.

Discussion should:

  • Interpret the findings without repeating the results verbatim.
  • Compare the findings with relevant previous studies.
  • Explain theoretical, methodological, practical, or technological implications.
  • Discuss unexpected results and relevant limitations.
  • Avoid conclusions that are not supported by the evidence.

7. CONCLUSION

The conclusion must provide a concise synthesis of the principal findings and explain how the study addresses its stated objectives.

  • Summarize the main findings and the study's contribution.
  • Explain the implications of the findings where appropriate.
  • Acknowledge important limitations when relevant.
  • Provide recommendations or future research directions when justified.

The conclusion should be written in coherent paragraphs rather than bullet points or numbered lists. It must not introduce new results, unsupported claims, or extensive discussion that belongs in earlier sections.

8. REFERENCES

The reference list must contain complete and accurate bibliographic information for all sources cited in the manuscript.

  • Use a consistent referencing style in accordance with the journal's current article template or author instructions.
  • Include author names, publication year, title, source or journal name, volume, issue, page range or article number, and DOI or URL where applicable.
  • Verify the accuracy of references and ensure that in-text citations correspond to the reference list.
  • Prefer original scholarly sources and relevant peer-reviewed literature.
  • Use persistent identifiers, particularly DOI links, when available.
  • Do not include references that have not been cited in the manuscript, unless explicitly required by the chosen referencing style.

Tables, Figures, and Equations

Tables, figures, equations, and supplementary materials must be relevant to the research objectives and clearly presented. Every table and figure must have an appropriate number and caption and must be cited in the manuscript text.

  • Figures must be clear, readable, and of sufficient resolution for publication.
  • Authors must obtain permission for copyrighted materials when required.
  • Data visualizations must accurately represent the underlying data and must not be misleading.
  • Equations must be legible, consistently formatted, and numbered when referenced in the text.

References and Citation Integrity

Authors must cite sources fairly and accurately, avoid plagiarism and inappropriate self-citation, and ensure that citations are relevant to the claims being made. Manuscripts may be screened for similarity and other potential publication ethics concerns in accordance with the journal's editorial policies.

Generative AI and AI-Assisted Tools

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical acceptability of their submissions. Where generative AI or AI-assisted tools have been used in ways that materially contribute to the research or manuscript preparation, authors must disclose such use in accordance with the journal's applicable AI policy. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors must verify generated content, citations, data, and interpretations and must not submit fabricated or misleading material.
