Data Governance and Digital Rights in AI Driven Business Ecosystems

Abstract

The rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and interconnected digital platforms has transformed business ecosystems while creating governance challenges involving data protection, privacy, transparency, accountability, and digital rights. This study examines how legal governance principles and organizational mechanisms can be integrated to support responsible and sustainable AI-driven business ecosystems. A qualitative normative and conceptual approach was employed using scholarly literature, international standards, regulatory materials, and policy frameworks published primarily between 2023 and 2026, which were thematically analyzed across data lifecycle governance, privacy and data protection, transparency and explainability, accountability, hu- man oversight, and fairness. The findings demonstrate that effective AI governance requires an integrated lifecycle-based framework connecting legal principles, organizational mechanisms, and stakeholder responsibilities. Accountability should remain attributable to identifiable actors, while meaningful transparency, human oversight, and access to remedies are essential for protecting individuals affected by AI-supported decisions. The study proposes an Integrated Human-Centered AI Legal Governance Framework that positions data governance as an organizational foundation for implementing digital rights and responsible AI principles. The framework provides a conceptual basis for accountable, transparent, rights-preserving, and sustainable AI governance across interconnected and data-intensive business environments while strengthening stakeholder trust and supporting responsible digital transformation.
